I started this boot camp with about half a year of iOS experience. I had done a handful of projects for myself and one project for a company. Even though I was doing alright in the field I wanted to get more knowledgeable and experienced in a short time, which is where the boot camp came into play.
Programming experience is required, not necessarily Swift.
Our lecturer was a developer with 30+ years experience of which 10 years iOS. He is more modern in his code and approach than many other developers with the same amount of experience. His teaching style is helpful but with a lot of freedom. The student is expected to try and figure out how to do something without immediately asking. An occasional push in the right direction was given when required and after you figured it out and...
This program is absolutely awesome. I attended the 12-week iOS bootcamp in may 2017. It's the best and fastest way to learn iOS development In 12 weeks. The teacher and curriculum were amazing and the pace was really fast. Bootcamp at is finest. I had no programming knowledge but made 5 really cool apps I can show my future employers.
Really enjoyed the this Bootcamp. The programme contains a nice mixture of theorie, exercises and practical projects (both individually as well as in a team). This combination gives you a good set of skills to start applying for Junior iOS positions. The tutors was excellent in explaining theorie and different problems and there was more than enough guidance and space to ask questions on a variety of topics. If questions were too complex to solve in a couple of minutes, the tutor would always have an answer the next day on how to solve the challenges.
Since this bootcamp was part of starting as a Developer at my current employer, the job support aspect was not really applicable for me. The App Academy does have connections and does offer support to their students in getting a job con...Read more
The first five to six week really means studying and learning to code. Fortunately I already had some coding experience and I liked the book we were working from, but still, it's a tough period. But together, you get through it. And then, the fun really begins. In teams, you start building your own apps. You can finally put to practice all the things you learned, and start to really get the hang of all those concepts. And the last five weeks, we worked on a prototype app for an actual company. We had a great time working on that app too, and working with a real product owner, a UX designer and other stakeholders of the app. It surprised me how much you can learn about app developing in three devoted months. I enjoyed it a lot, and I feel confident now that I can really get a job as an ...Read more
I my case it started with the following sentence, ‘want to make a complete new start of your career?’ When I saw this line in an intern Vacancy at my company, I knew I wanted to take this step. Two months later I joined the Android bootcamp at the App Academy. Wow, what a change from the environment in my past job to this complete new environment. And not only the Environment was new, the language, programs and to learn skills.
They warned us that a bootcamp like this is not easy and will take a lot of your time especially the first six weeks. And they did not lie. If you join this bootcamp you will have to get ready for some hard work. But you are not alone. You have a great teacher with a lot of experience and class/bootcamp mates who can help you with any difficulties, code and fu...Read more
I was send from my employer to the App Academy to learn building Android apps. I had zero experience in developing.
In the beginning it was really tough but the coach helps you through the course. I am not going to lie, you really need to put allot of hours in the bootcamp and put your personal life on pause. Believe me, it will pay back.
The course is for everybody who wants to learn building apps, and it does not matter whether you have zero or a bit of experience in this field.
Now I am building apps and loving it, my workdays does not feel as work anymore.
While I was searching for a job within fashion, I just couldn't find something that felt completely right. This bootcamp appealed to me because you quickly learn a new skill and a new profession. Unsure if I could learn it all within 3 months, I started the bootcamp and dived in head first. Due to the high level of the teachers and the intensity of the bootcamp, I felt like I could learn it all within 3 months. The environment is easy-going and stimulating, with room to make as many mistakes as you can to understand all the concepts better. I am convinced that anyone who really really wants to, can learn how to code in swift. It requires total commitment, but with that, it is definitely worth it a thousand percent.
Having only done some Swift tutorials online prior to the iOS bootcamp, my knowledge was very limited and honestly I was not sure I would be able to learn how to code in just three months.
Although at times, the course is extremely challenging and I felt confused at the beginning (especially during week 2 and 3) it all started making a lot of sense shortly after. So as long as you really apply yourself and try to follow the instructions and tasks you are given, you will soon realise that coding is a way of thought and you will start grasping concepts and ways of teaching yourself how to code.
I thought that the teaching staff was great and provided me with all the support I needed to learn Swift and how to teach myself (which is key!). The main tip I could give to someone lookin...Read more
While there are many aspects that could be covered, I will review two aspects that personally I found most important during my bootcamp at The App Academy. That is the language that we were learning and the way we were taught it (and what future prospects did it set).
Probably one of the greatest things about The App Academy is that you get to learn how to work with the newest and most promising iOS developing language, Swift. While Objective-C still remains widely used in the world of iOS development and knowing it is still important, The App Academy offers a forward-looking approach and aims at preparing you for the growing present and future trends. Subsequently, the downside of this approach is that you do not get a chance to know Objective-C better. While there where ...
As an industrial engineer, I was familiar to programming in some languages when I started working at the bootcamp. But even though this was the case, I wasn't feeling confident since the languages I have worked on didn't contain Objective-C. From the start, it appeared to me that in order to learn coding in a limited time such as 9 weeks, I needed to work with really good teachers in a supportive environment. Our teachers were highly capable in the means of technical knowledge and also in teaching. They did their best to keep us focused and determined which worked greatly for all of the students. In my opinion, the mental aspects of learning coding are equally important to the technical aspects and I was able to successfully complete this course thanks to the support I got from everyone...Read more
